Student Behaviour of Conduct Agreement

All students are to adhere to the following code of conduct while registered as students at DESTINATION TEFL.  As trainee teachers, you are expected to behave as teachers, both in and out of the classroom. Please sign this agreement below. In signing, you agree to the follow the code of conduct, and that should you not, you may be asked to leave the course by the director, and no money will be reimbursed.

  1. You are expected to dress appropriately in class, as well as for TPs. Please see your course files/facebook group for the dress code. Although the classroom dress code is a little more relaxed than that for a TP, still no low cut, strapless, or revealing outfits for girls, and no vests or caps for boys. Cargo shorts are acceptable for the classroom, but not for TPs. Shoes are to be worn to class, and left outside the classroom.

  2. No drinking of alcohol during class times, even during lunch breaks.

  3. Please treat the staff at your hotel, teachers at the school, restaurant staff, neighbouring businesses and all other people you come into contact with, with respect  - as is the Thai custom. Familiarise yourself with Thai culture, and behave accordingly. Teachers are revered in Asia, so behave accordingly so that you deserve the respect you are given.

  4. Please clean up after yourselves in the classroom: the coffee counter, paper cuttings etc. When teaching at a school, leave the classroom as you found it, rearrange desks, and clean the board.

  5. Please treat each other with respect in the classroom and out of class. If you have a disagreement, or a different opinion to someone else, handle it in an adult manner, and respect that others may not have the same opinion as you.

  6. Punctuality is essential. Please respect your trainers by arriving to class on time in the morning or after breaks. The same applies for TPs. Marks will be deducted if you are not punctual or do not attend classes.

  7. No smoking is allowed at TPs, the school premises, or even the surrounding building grounds.

  8. No TOILET PAPER OR ANY OTHER FOREIGN MATTER can be flushed down the toilets at the school, or anywhere in Asia.

  9. All course participants are expected to maintain a professional attitude, a respectful manner, and cultural sensitivity as befitting a student and representative of Destination TEFL in Cambodia.

  10. A course participant shall at all times act in the best interests of the Cambodia Teaching Profession that they are representing during their stay in Cambodia, as well as in Vietnam and Thailand. They shall not act in any manner which is improper or brings Destination TEFL or a school that they are teaching at into disrepute. They shall not use anyone, treat anyone with bad manners, use threatening, abusive, indecent or insulting words or behaviour.

  11. Those participating on the ‘Study Cambodia, Teach Thailand/Cambodia’ package, the same code of conduct applies when placed in Thailand or Vietnam - All programme participants are expected to maintain a professional attitude, a respectful manner, and cultural sensitivity as befitting a student and representative of Destination TEFL in these countries. A programme participant shall at all times act in the best interests of the Asian Teaching Profession that they are representing during their stay in Cambodia, Vietnam or Cambodia. They shall not act in any manner which is improper or brings Destination TEFL or a school that they are teaching at into disrepute. They shall not use anyone, treat anyone with bad manners, use threatening, abusive, indecent or insulting words or behaviour.

  12. Should anyone not maintain appropriate behaviour, they will no longer be part of the programme. This applies to behaviour while on orientation, during interviews and observation lessons, as well as behaviour once employed.

TERMS and CONDITIONS:

A.   Destination TEFL has the right to cancel the enrolment of any student who:

i.    Is disruptive in class
ii.   Appears to present a risk to anybody in the programme.
iii.  Is under the influence of alcohol, drugs or any other banned substances.
iv.  Engages in behaviour that is contrary to the ideals and interests of the course.
v.   Provides inaccuracies or fraudulent claims in the application process or while in the programme.

All course members are liable to the disciplinary regulations of the centre. The course director's decision is final and dismissal from the course is not grounds for a refund.
